John Steinbeck is the author of more than twenty five books.  He was born in the Salinas Valley, California on February 27, in 1902 and spent most of his life in Monterey, California.  He attended Stanford University but did not graduate.
    He wrote many wonderful books about real characters he met along the way.  Steinbeck won the Noble Prize in 1962 but he did not want it.  I learned in my English class that he believed if he won this prize, it would cause him to stop writing.  I thought that was a pretty cool fun fact. 
    His writings covered many different subjects.  If you are looking for something with drama, I would recommend Of Mice and Men.  That book is amazing.  If you are looking for a fun and entertaining book to read this one is it.  In fact, Torilla Flat was the first book he had success with. Trust me, I consider myself a book guy and know what is good to read.
    Sadly, he died in 1968.  In my opinion, I believe he was one of the most successful writers.  I visit Monterey at least once or twice a year just in case a couple of writing skills happen to fall on me where he used to live.
